They do the job!

I am very happy with these gavage needles. They are sturdy and well-made, and I especially like the ball tip, as opposed to the teardrop style. I use these for cockatiels, and my teardrop-tipped needles are slightly larger and sometimes more difficult to use with a smaller bird.
I’ve been searching for ball tip needles for years and I’m so happy to know where I can go should I need to purchase more.

Epithelial Cell Isolation from Intestines

Our lab cuts the tip of the plastic oral gavage needles and uses them to flush out the poop from the intestines of mice. We then obtain the intestinal tissue and isolate single epithelial cells for FACS sorting. These needles work great for our needs.

good products

The needles are in very good quality

Advantages of using a reusable gavage / animal feeding needles

There has been a lot of debate about using reusable vs disposable Gavage Needles. Here is a list of pros and cons of using a reusable gavage needle

Pros

1. Animal cannot chew the tube

2. Smoother tips as sometimes plastic tips may contain rough edges that may catch esophageal tissue while insertion and extraction of needle

3. Tips do not come off easily which may be the case with some disposable feeding needles

4. Retains tube shape when needle tube is bended in certain angle

5. Easy to clean and sterilize

Cons

1. In short term operating cost may be higher due to sterilization costs but over long term reusable needles may be more cost effective depending on frequency of usage.
